Homeless families find homes in America
As I have written about an ever increasing rise of homelessness and how homelessness can affect different socioeconomic classes, and the affects of homelessness. With over fifteen shelters in Birmingham, Alabama including a range of services from churches, food banks, job skills programs, HUD program, Habitat for Humanity, faith-based and community initiatives. There are many other programs within the community, state level, nationally, and internationally that help families who are homeless and who need assistance in buying a home.
There are employment offices located throughout the state and nationwide to assist in helping people find employment either through the state or through the county. With numerous agencies to assist in homelessness and many jobs throughout the state there are many families, single parents, veterans, and adolescents who are among the homeless population and for some it may be hard to phantom, but there is a cycle of homelessness just like there are cycles of unemployment, cycles of abuse, or those who are co-dependent. Just with any social issue one must identify the problem, analyze it, and assist in contributing to society a solution to humanity.
Not only understanding the cause of homelessness in which poverty and lack of unemployment are major factors considering the socioeconomic status, however, it is imperative that we understand that poverty is once again not just found among the homeless. How can we as a society contribute to the ever increasing needs of this social issue when there are not enough section eight homes, nor are there not enough low income homes when there are not enough shelters in some states where they have to leave and/or they are full. More section –eight homes and low-income homes would help in this social issue. In finding a solution to stopping the cycle of homelessness we must understand what poverty really means? Poverty can be found within a middle-class home or the wealthy, not just the poor who have no money

Homeless Families in America
How do we as Americans view poverty and homelessness among families? Poverty is the root of homelessness which can be found among different socioeconomic classes who are not homeless. Which is something to ponder. How can we as Americans live in a country so blessed with such freedom that statistically homelessness continues to rise on a yearly basis. Families of every walk of life continue to face challenges, crises, trials, and tribulations that may strecth them to the max financially with oil prices increasing, expensive health care costs to families who may find themselves sick and can not work and loose their health coverage, families of all socioeconomic status find themselves in financial situations that may result in homeforeclosures especially if a family requires two incomes as opposed to one income. The ever increasing prices with our economy at a standstill Americans are concerned with the economy of the United States of America.
Once families find themselves homeless or in a shelter it can be a very hard cycle to break. Why is homelessness a cycle that is hard to break? For example, when a male looses his job or high paying position it lowers his self-esteem in which most males value their sucess in financial measures. When a job loss occurs and the man is the sole provider of the home with a family of more than one child not only does it put a stress on the family, but it affects all aspects of a marriage relationship. The loss of a job does not just affect the checkbook or the savings it affects the mentally, spirit, and soul of a man and woman who value a strong work ethic. It seems to put tremendous pressure on a marriage, spiritually, financially, and mentally. Not to mention how it affects the mentality of the children within the family as well.
Homelessness has so many affects that it can strip a man's pride within himself the ability to provide for his family. The affects on a child of homelessness removes not just the stability within the home, but it can affect the child's demeanor, self-esteem, and educational ability within school. However, when a family that consists of a strong family support, love, and a faith in God one can overcome homelessness and avoid the cycle of homelessness. It takes a strong support unit and faith in God to keep a family, marriage, and home together.
It is imperative that we as Americans treat our neighbors as we would like to be treated. Do unto others as you would have them to do unto you. The golden rule. It takes America to work together from all socioeconomic backgrounds to come together as a nation. United we stand divided we fall to help our fellow man, brother, sister, etc. Not only within the social profession is it important that we serve one another with dignity and respect, but that we serve one another, and not look down on the homeless, to not think we are better than those who are homeless, less fortunate, or without, but to reach out as Americans to stop the cycle of homelessness. What are your views on homeless families within America?

Homeless families
As I walked in between two buildings in Africa I noticed a door that was opened so I looked to my left and saw poverty for the first time through different eyes as I passed a one bedroom apartment with the door opened there was a mother and her children living without furniture, a black dirty mattress with no sheets lay on concrete floor with no carpet, no washer and dryer, as I watched a mother lay the wet clothes on the concrete floor and the children stood within the apartment without no toys. As I continued to walk people stood in line at a water facet to fill their empty jugs with water and others waiting to wash clothes without soap or laundry detergent. As I continued to walk down the alley I saw two boys kicking an empty plastic bottle back and forth as if they were playing soccer without a soccer ball. Two women wearing veils with only there eyes showing walked passed me, and as I traveled through Moroco it was apparent that one street over were Palaces where Kings and Queens lived. There was no middle class. Individuals either lived in poverty or wealth. Before I returned to the US I not only found myself to appreciate my country, but freedom as well.
So what made me interested in homelessness? Over the years, I have worked within the social service setting and have seen people's lives affected by different circumstances from the poor to the middle class to the wealthy. Regardless of socioeconomic status life does not always come easy nor is life always served in a silver platter to everyone. With homelessness on the rise and ever increasing statistics of at risk groups, families, single parents with children, and veterans who are homeless. Yes that is correct. There are veterans who find themselves homeless. The very ones who fought for our freedom some of which find themselves living on the streets, and eating out of dumpsters within the land of the free. These different populations make up over three million annually who are homeless. Poverty is the root of homeless which can also be found among different socioeconomic classes who are not homeless, and not just the homeless. A home consist of a family, love, stability, and a strong family support unit. Not only is it through lifes lessons, trials, and tribulations that we find ourselves depending on either a higher power or God almighty. How do we as individuals view poverty and homelessness among families?
